When you’re grumpy
When you’re mad
When you’re naughty
When you’re sad
I love you
I love you
I do
When I’m laughing
When I pout
When I need to cry it out
You love me
You love me
You do
When we’re hugging
When we’re far
Doesn’t matter where we are
I love you
You love me
We do
My task is set before me
I’m ready to crochet
Yet little hands and feet
Keep getting in my way.
They push into my progress
They tend to slow me down
They climb me like a ladder
I wear them like a gown.
My checklist is unchecked
My task is still undone
This task that takes ten days
That really should take one.
Some journeys might be quick-
“Hurry up an’ git!”
But family takes the long road
Where memories are knit.
Once there were boys who would tell their tall tales,
Stories of monsters and man eating whales,
Stories of goblins and sharks that would bite,
Stories of camping on dark stormy nights.
Their stories would frighten each one of the girls,
It would scare off their socks and their shoes and their pearls
And even though boys knew their stories weren’t true
The stories they told scared the socks off them too
Walking bumping cruising through
Not a lot of things to do
Lots of sun and lots of sand
Sweating beads and getting tanned
Hop aboard bounce along
You can sing the camel song
Bumping jumping bouncing through
Spitball camel things to do
Eyes wide open, seeing things
Birds and bugs and buzzing things
Busy me with eyes to see
Busy me with things to do
Busy me with life to snatch
Busy me and busy you
But maybe every now and then
It’s good for me to bow my head
And look for things that can’t be seen
But must be felt with hearts instead.
How to tie a tie
How to tie a shoe
Tricky things for me
Easy things for you
Got my eyes on dad.
Show me what to do.
